How To Get The Most Out of College (You'll love #5)
How to Get the Most Out of College (You’ll love #5)
Old habits die hard. We go to college and expect life to be drastically different, but very quickly we find ourselves in the same routines we held when we were in high school. {Think: on Tuesdays we eat tacos and on Wednesdays we wear pink}. Now, I love a good Taco Tuesday but there has to be more to life than the monotony we often times find ourselves in – college is the PERFECT time to break out and try some new things!
1. JUST SAY YES.
Unless it’s illegal or against your morals, say yes to it and see what happens! It may be out of your comfort zone and you might fail, but “darlin’ you might fly”. Some of the
best things in life happen when we step outside our bubble and do things that scare us. This might be joining a club, doing karaoke, or taking a semester to study abroad...the possibilities are endless!
2. EXPERIMENT!
Besides preparing you for your future, what else is college for?? Now is the perfect time to rock that purple hair, or act in your first play or get a nose ring! When you graduate and join the real world, most employers don’t allow anything too wacky or out of the ordinary, so dare to be different now while you can!
3. TRY A SPORT.
Most colleges have intramural sports and anyone can participate! Whether you were star of your high school team or you’ve never played the game a day in your life, try it out! You may find that soccer is your hidden talent, and if not you will still walk away with the chance to meet a great new set of people that you wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet otherwise.
4. STUDY ABROAD.
If this is an option for you, DO IT! There is nothing that will be more of an adventure or a chance to grow as living in a different culture and experiencing life there. This could literally be a once in a lifetime opportunity – seize the day!
5. STOP CARING WHAT OTHERS THINK.
It’s tough, but college is the time when you will really start growing into the person you are meant to be. It is SO much easier to do this without having to worry about what everyone else thinks. High school was filled with worries over what to wear, where to sit in the lunch room and whether or not you should have said something different – drop all of those worries and focus on you! What makes YOU happy? If happiness is mismatched socks and Dungeons and Dragons, by all means – don’t let Negative Nelly with the attitude over there stop you from being who you are!
Love yourself, practice self-care, and give yourself the grace to try and fail. There is never a better time in life to get creative than in college! What are you waiting for?
